La Vela
The Venezia Futura project in Italy is sited on an existing dock lined with light industrial sheds. It was at the head of this dock that the grand vision was conceived of re-establishing a tourist link from the heart of mainland Venice (Mestre) into the lagoon and to Venice beyond.
La Vela is a four storey commercial office building situated on the edge of the dock and a new road and is highly visible to passing traffic, both vehicular and boats. It is an elegant glass building which allows in plenty of light and ventilation, in order to create a stimulating and comfortable office environment for its occupants. The plan of the building is divided into three zones which are each served by a circulation core. The layout of the plan is flexible in order to accommodate a range of office sizes.
The dynamic steel roof of the building is supported on steel columns. Its sharp point projects over the building’s footprint – the building appears to be pointing the way for the traffic.
